..can i buy a vowel?
THAT'S UNBELIEVABLE........The local e mail in Costa Rica "dumps" any e mail that has the words green, white, snow and 57 other words!
The ISP is controlled by the Gov!
It had to do with the offsite URL you had in your signature. Had nudity in it. Didn't want the search engines to pick it up and start relating the forum to nude picture sites.
The url is not in my signature, a link to the url is..,
http:// celebrity foto.punt.nl
(foto(dut.) = photo(eng.)
holds 3658 photo's of female celebrities, not one shows full frontal nudity.
If you'd look at the generated html source code you'd see there is not one (meta) tag related to anything sexual or to "nudity" (not even in the picture-tags)
The ads on the site, from google adsense, are all "non-adult"
The Dutch host doesn't allow other "settings" for their free hostingplan. Unless i pay for hosting or have a disclaimer and age-check on the homepage.
Are you telling me you're affraid this v-bulletin board could get indexed as a nude picture related site because of the link in my signature to that.!?
Please tell me how that would work so that i can implement the technique in favour of other sites i run and that could really benefit from this!
The errormessage saying i used a censored word is very confusing, since being dutch kinda also means i have no idea how to deal with censorship.
A list of these cencored words would realy be helpfull to make sure i don't make any mistakes.
(btw the link has been in my signature for the past month or so)
i see, the word is celebrity foto? (written as one) as in celebrityphoto / celebritypicture?
it shows up as: ************* (<---see)
girlfoto, nakedgirlfoto, nudityfoto, nudefoto, pornfoto, sexfoto, sexyfoto, sexygirlfoto or nakedasthedayiwasbornfoto ?
As shown here the only word being sencored is ************* (<---see) and it's not even english...
FAQ does say something about no adult content and the reason simply is that being that its members come in just about every age bracket school age to ???, every religion and ethnicity .Evidently it was the sites content at issue. At you suggestions those words will be added.
Have you seen the content?! or read my second post at all?!
it is not, i repeat not an adult site!! nor does it contain "Adult" content or any links to it!
My last post was perfectly readable the first time, it contains no links just examples of words that apparently didn't get censored, 10 min. later it got censored and i see this? (btw. celebritypicture / celebrityphoto are still ok but ************* is not)
Just delete the whole thread...i'm sorry i even started it and now i seem to be getting into a discussion about censorship...
Nice going people...
It had some revealing photos of females from the waste up, not necessarily full frontal, but, more revealing than US citizens are used to. In fact, some of them wouldn't be shown on public tv in the US because of it.
Censorship? Well, I guess you could call it that. I think of it more as a visitor bringing something into someone's place of business that isn't appropriate. I mean you wouldn't take your half ***** wife/girlfriend into a fancy restaurant or take her to church that way. Would that be considered censorship?
no it wouldn't because that's just common descency (and a silly example)
The fact that it said i used a sencored word (nothing about inappropriate content) does.
We're not in church or in a restaurant, i'm not insulting a
religion or trying to shock and disgust anyone.
No preacher or chef has ever felt the need to tell me i brought anything inappropriate to this place of business.
Because i don't.
The URL is not directly visible, i'm not promoting it
in any way. Infact, the only reference to it,
is a link saying not to klick on it!
The contents of the site are not considered "Adult" by it's responsable hostingservice, wich complies to (inter) national standards and the reason why Google only places non adult ads (!)
Let's not set these standards and criteria accordingly to whether or not, it's shown on american public tv (...please)
I wonder though how this same "businessowner" would react to another businessowner selling or advertising his own stuff in his store (lots of links in signatures pointing in that direction..)
So if it comes down to what the owner of this forum finds appropriatie or not then i'm sure he'll let me know if i step out of line, he always does, untill then i'll let wikipedia's defenition determine what should or shouldn't be considered...
"Censorship is the suppression or deletion of material which may be considered objectionable, harmful or sensitive, as determined by a censor."
I guess I don't get it, if you aren't promoting the link then why have it at all? You are putting a teaser there which will probably result in more clicks than not. The name in the link isn't really the subject here. It's that there is a link on the LBF that goes to a site that has the content.
I have seen the site and I would consider some of the pictures to be 'adult content' but certainly not pornographic.
There's a big culture difference in this aspect between the US and Europe and a lot of other nations. Good or bad, most likely bad in my opinion, the US is a lot more conservative regarding nakedness and partial nakedness. Call us prudes, I guess.
Personally, I see nothing wrong with the site myself. However, I wouldn't want the link on any of my business related websites although if I had a personal blog or other personal website, it wouldn't matter to me.
Marc wants the forum to have acceptable content (including links) that are more business and safe to view for all members of the family in US views, which will be a lot more conservative than most other nations.
Well said Chris.
Geez. This is truly amazing.
We can't go 20 minutes in this forum without some sort of non-graphic, non-business related rant!
In signature links, I'm all for promoting your own business.
Link back to your own site, link back to works you've done for others. Great.
Linking back to a celebrity site that has nothing to do with you - adult content or not - has no warrant in this particular forum. It takes users away from the forum. It looses the focus of this forum.
Lamo1, Topcatz, and MasterD, (and any others that I can't think of off the top of my head) I would also like you all to cut down the sizes of your signature pictures. It makes the threads you all post to very hard to read. This is going to be a rule in the new forum.
Why was that link even in your signature MasterD? What was the point? Did you take those pictures of the celebrities?
The forum is in the process of cleaning up and becoming more professional. Professionals can point back to their own work and business. Professionals - small business professionals - can't link back to celebrity sites.
I am ruler!
Like it or lump it.
Thank you Terry.
the site is one of 14 that i run, all have google ads, google adsence revenue comes to about $15.- per site per week so it totals at about $150 to $200 a week. That's a business right?
Anyway as stateted in a earlier post, just delete this thread i'm sorry i started it in the first place.
Okay, fair enough. Yes, it's a business - but it doesn't appear that way to the ***** eye.
I mean ... "***ked" eye"
And yes, I probably will delete this thread.
And thanks for shrinking down your sig pic MasterDesign.
Honestly, it looks MUCH better and the focus is now strictly on your own work.
Well it seems everyone is in somewhat of a general understanding on this thread now and the issue seems to be resolved. I appreciate everyone for maintaining a professional attitude while discussing the issue. To avoid any further conversation in a negative direction I will lock this thread until Marc decides whether or not it will be deleted or not. I personally feel this is a good thread to look back on and see people handle things like adults and resolve an issue free of drama.
If any mod or admin feels the need to unlock the thread please feel free.
P.S.- TC and MD your sigs do look a lot better.. I think its inspired me to change mine soon to something more professional and smaller in size.
