    This is my first logo.

Now I'm wondering what all isn't correct? and what could I have done different to make it really stand out?

I wanted (was trying to) have it so the text appeared 'inside' the wings of this eagle. The eagle is from some fonts with the = sign............

and thank you, and give it to me straight.. I can handle critical comments/suggestions, this is my first one..and if I can't handle designing a logo, no biggie..LOL

Your concept is excellent, however, your image doesn't allow your business name to standout...which is most desireable to have. Perhaps you could try just the head of an eagle graphic and use just a swooshes as a hint of the wing shape....place behind the eagle head Placing your text of American under one swoosh and Janitorial under the other. Choose the option for circle text but spread the radius out so it follows the wing shape.

I am using my laptop so I could give you a quick idea of what I am trying to explain.

    Hi KD did,

annnnnnnnnnd thank you for yoru suggestion. I just spent a few hours trying to 'draw' the top part of an eagle in the paint program I have. That's extremely difficult. I then went into this logo creator and placed some shapes togather trying to get a rough idea shape of an eagle.

been having fun obviously, cuz i'm stilllllllllllll at it...

    thanks again,

Someone where around here in the forums is a very nice picture of an eagle with spread wings that someone did for an e-cover. I will try and find it. Maybe you could trace it and work from there.

    hey Ryan,

I spent a few housr last night in this paint program I have 'trying' to do some tracing..Man, that is 'extremely' difficult. I finally figured out I can draw straigt lines with the point to point option. ANy other type of drawing in there though.. kinda scary lol........

I was trying to draw basically an uper image of an eagle so I coudl attempt to do what KD did mentioned.... everything I came up with looked... TERRIBLE! LOL and couldn't tell what it even was that I drew....rofl....it was a challenge though that much i can say...

    thank you,,,,,,

Besides the line element found in TLC you can draw lines in TLC too. Use the underscore key. Usually the wider the font the underscore line will be usally wider too :). Not all fonts have the ability to use the underscore key but I believe Impact is one that does. By duplicating and dragging them together you can customize the the thickness of the line by duplicating the line and layering them next to each other. You have an added advantage that you can color a line you draw , outline them, and even use the text effects that are built into TLC.:) :)

Look for "dingbat" fonts....'picture fonts' with eagles in them. Just type a leter and image will appear instead of a letter when you choose the dingbat font. It is a smart to have a font viewer on board like The Font Thing[/B that has a character map so you know what key makes which image appear. Again because it is a font eveything you can do to text in TLC you can do to the the image made with dingbats.
The Font Thing is a wonderful tool to have on your computer and BEST of all is it FREE.

super!! that's good to know. Earlier I wanted a straight line, can't remember the color now, so I went into paint, got a line, but wasn't able to get 'just' the line. I ended up with the line like IN a square as well.....

Knowing the underscore will produce a line, and I can change colors, is fabulous to know, and time saving for my logo rookie self

    thanks again Ryan

which paint program? Tracing can be difficult unless you're using the right tools. Many programs have a tracing option built-in... Let me know the name of it and i'll see what i can find.

uh-ohhh KD did...you didn't comment on my funny looking logo...LOL

I do have that eaglemania already. If I can ask ya this, if I were to use the eagle head in eaglemania, and IF I were to be interested in printing purposes, would I need to fill the eagle head?? just curious...

annnnnnnnnnd thank you again KD did........

That usually is a question of taste, but being the American eagle has a white head you are pretty much covered either way. The only reason to fill with white would be you would be putting it atop of a colored background .Not filling the eagle's head allows you to be able to put color in the company name and that allows the company name to be the primary focus on printed materials. Try it both ways and see what you like best.

Your eagle has very good proportions.

As a side note: one thing that adds to printing cost is the number of colors....the fewer the number the less cost involved. IMHO red, white and blue seem to be a natural for your logo.I suggest layer your eagle on top of the swoosh wings as it will tighten up your design. That is another reason you may wish to fill in the eagles head.My attachment of your logo was done to give you an idea of what having the head on top of the swoosh does to tighten it up a bit and what the red, white and blue coloration would look like.

ok, this is what I ended up doing in that paint shop.

I played around, and magnified my window box open very big. Looked at a picture of an eagle and then selected the free hand tool. I now know when you open the window up til its' 'huge' then the drawing can be a lot! better.

this paint program isn't so bad now after all ...i guess..LOL

Hope you don't mind but I cleaned up your eagle a little . I also am providing a black and white version which you may find useful in the future.
